FalcoSearch – Live Search & Product Filter for WooCommerce

Descrição

FalcoSearch is a WordPress plugin that adds instant live search and AJAX product filters to a WooCommerce store or any WordPress site. Visitors see matching products and posts while they type, then narrow a shop or archive page by category, price, rating, availability and more — without a page reload.

It combines two tools that are usually separate plugins:

  1. Live search — a search box that shows results as the visitor types.
  2. Filter builder — a drag-and-drop editor for product and post filters, with SEO-friendly filter URLs.

FalcoSearch was formerly called Xero Finder. Settings, shortcodes and developer hooks are unchanged.

What you can do with FalcoSearch

  • Add an instant product search to a WooCommerce store, with prices and sale badges in the results
  • Add faceted product filters — category, price, color, size, brand, rating, stock — beside your shop grid
  • Let shoppers combine filters and see results update without a page reload
  • Give filtered pages clean, indexable URLs such as /shop/color-blue/
  • Filter and search blog posts or any custom post type, not only products
  • See what visitors search for, and which searches find nothing

Set up in minutes

  1. Activate. On a store, products are searchable straight away.
  2. Search: press Ctrl + / (Cmd + / on Mac) on your site, or add the [xerosf_icon] shortcode.
  3. Filters: click New Filter Set Set up shop filters for me. FalcoSearch builds filters from your own categories, prices and product attributes and shows them on your shop pages.

No code, no template edits. Everything can be changed afterwards in a visual editor.

At a glance

  • Works with: WooCommerce products, posts, pages and any public custom post type
  • Page builders and themes: classic themes, block themes (WooCommerce Product Collection block), Elementor, and the block editor
  • Languages: translation-ready; WPML and Polylang supported
  • Front end: vanilla JavaScript, no jQuery, assets load only where needed
  • Data: stored in your own WordPress database
  • Requires: WordPress 5.2+, PHP 7.4+. WooCommerce is optional.

Live search

A search window opens over the page and lists results as the visitor types.

  • Instant results with thumbnail, highlighted match, post type and date
  • WooCommerce details in each product result: price, sale badge, out-of-stock badge
  • Four ways to open it: a shortcode button or input, your theme’s existing search field, Ctrl + / (Cmd + / on Mac), or a triple-click
  • Three layouts: modal, full screen, top bar
  • Choose what is searched: titles only, titles and excerpts, or titles, excerpts and content
  • Search more fields: ACF fields and Yoast SEO / Rank Math focus keywords and descriptions
  • Smarter matching: synonyms, word-by-word fallback when a phrase finds nothing, and operators such as "exact phrase" and -exclude
  • Voice search in browsers that support speech recognition (Chrome, Edge, Safari)
  • Quick-search suggestions you define, shown before the visitor types
  • Favorites and recent searches, kept in the visitor’s own browser
  • Keyboard friendly: arrow keys move through results, Enter searches, Escape closes
  • Cross-site search: include results from other sites running FalcoSearch

Product and post filters

Build a set of filters in the editor, then show it on your shop, category, search or archive pages.

  • 12 filter types: checkbox list, radio buttons, dropdown, buttons, color and image swatches, range slider, min / max inputs, star rating, availability toggles (in stock, on sale, featured, downloadable, backorder), author, date range, category tree
  • One-click setup: a ready-made filter set built from your store’s categories, prices and attributes
  • Add filters by what they filter — Price, Category, Brand, Color, Rating — already configured
  • Visual editor: drag to reorder, rename, switch how a filter is displayed, see a live preview
  • Store currency is used on price filters automatically
  • AJAX filtering: results, counts, active-filter chips and pagination update in place
  • Live counts: each option shows how many results it would give
  • Sidebar layout: on WooCommerce archives a vertical filter set sits beside the product grid; horizontal and off-canvas layouts are also available
  • Mobile drawer: on phones the filters open full screen from a floating “Filters” button
  • Instant or “Apply” mode, sorting dropdown, collapsible groups, “show more”, search within long lists
  • Placement: automatic on matching archives, or with a shortcode, a block or an Elementor widget
  • Works without JavaScript for checkbox, radio, dropdown, rating, date and min / max filters
  • Any post type: works for blog posts and custom post types, not only products

SEO for filtered pages

  • Clean filter URLs such as /shop/color-blue/brand-acer/, with redirects to one canonical order
  • Title, H1 and meta description templates per filter set
  • Indexing control: choose how many taxonomy filters deep a page may be indexed; pages filtered by price, stock, rating, date or sort order are noindex, follow
  • Canonical tags and an XML sitemap provider for indexable filter pages
  • Works with Yoast SEO and Rank Math, and on its own when neither is installed

Search analytics

  • Total searches, unique terms and average results per search
  • Zero-result searches — what visitors looked for and did not find
  • Top keywords and search volume over time
  • CSV export and a configurable retention period

Also included

  • Related posts shortcode, with optional automatic placement on single posts
  • 404 rescue: redirect a missing URL to the closest matching post
  • Slash commands (optional) for power users — see below
  • Multi-currency price filters (WOOCS and CURCY adapters, plus filters for other plugins)
  • Full-page-cache friendly: search works on cached pages; optional cache-vary cookie for filtered pages

FAQ

What is FalcoSearch?

FalcoSearch is a free WordPress plugin that adds live AJAX search and product filters to a site. Visitors get results while typing, and can filter WooCommerce products or any post type by category, price, rating, stock and other attributes without reloading the page.

Is FalcoSearch free?

Yes. FalcoSearch is free and open source (GPLv2 or later). Every feature described on this page is included in the free plugin.

What do I need to run FalcoSearch?

WordPress 5.2 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. WooCommerce is optional and only needed for product search and product filters. No other plugin or external service is required.

How long does setup take?

A few minutes. Search works after activation. For filters, choose Set up shop filters for me and FalcoSearch creates a filter set from your categories, prices and product attributes and places it on your shop pages.

Does FalcoSearch work with WooCommerce?

Yes. Enable Products in the search settings and results show the product image, price, sale badge and stock status. The filter builder supports product categories, tags, attributes, price, rating, and availability such as in stock and on sale.

Does it work without WooCommerce?

Yes. WooCommerce is optional. Live search and filters work for posts, pages and any public custom post type. WooCommerce-only options, such as price sorting and availability toggles, appear only when WooCommerce is active.

How do I add a search box to my site?

Add the shortcode [xerosf_icon] for a search button or [xerosf_input] for a search field, in any page, widget or template. FalcoSearch can also open from your theme’s existing search field, from Ctrl + /, or from a triple-click — each can be switched on or off under Triggers.

How do I add product filters to my shop page?

Go to FalcoSearch Filter Sets, click New Filter Set and choose Set up shop filters for me. The filters appear in a sidebar on your shop, category and tag pages. To place a set yourself, use [xerosf_filters set="ID"] or the FalcoSearch Filters widget in Elementor.

What is the difference between live search and product filters?

Live search finds items by keyword: the visitor types and matching products or posts appear instantly. Product filters (also called faceted search or layered navigation) narrow a list the visitor is already looking at — for example a shop page — by category, price, color, size, brand, rating or stock. FalcoSearch includes both, and they can be used together or separately.

Does it replace the default WordPress search?

No. FalcoSearch adds a live search window on top of your site and can open it from your theme’s existing search field. Your normal search results page keeps working, and filter sets can be shown on it.

Can I use only the search, or only the filters?

Yes. The two parts are independent. Turn off the search triggers to use filters alone, or simply create no filter sets to use search alone. Scripts and styles load only for the part that is in use.

Can I filter products by price, color, size or brand?

Yes. Use a range slider or min / max inputs for price, and checkboxes, buttons, dropdowns or swatches for any product attribute or taxonomy such as color, size or brand. Swatch colors and images are set on each term’s edit screen.

Do the filter counts update as shoppers filter?

Yes. Each option shows how many results it would give with the current selection, options that would give nothing can be hidden, and counts refresh after every change.

Are filtered pages good for SEO?

Yes. Filter sets can use clean URLs such as /shop/color-blue/, with their own title, H1 and meta description templates, canonical tags and sitemap entries. You choose how many taxonomy filters deep a page may be indexed. Pages filtered by price, stock, rating, date or sort order are marked noindex, follow to avoid duplicate content.

Does it work with Elementor and block themes?

Yes. FalcoSearch adds Filters, Chips and Sorting widgets to Elementor. On block themes it filters the WooCommerce Product Collection block. Classic themes are supported through WooCommerce and WordPress template hooks.

Is it compatible with caching plugins?

Yes. Live search works on pages served from a full-page cache. For filtered pages that share a URL, an optional cookie lets Cloudflare, Varnish, Nginx, WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache and Batcache keep separate cached copies.

Does FalcoSearch slow down my site?

It is built to stay light. The front end uses vanilla JavaScript with no jQuery, scripts load only on pages that need them, voice search and slash commands load on first use, and search results and filter counts are cached.

Is FalcoSearch translation ready and multilingual?

Yes. All interface text is translatable (text domain wpxero-search-filter). With WPML or Polylang, filter labels can be translated and filters use the terms of the current language.

Does it support multiple currencies?

Yes. Price filters convert between the shop’s base currency and the visitor’s currency. WOOCS and CURCY are supported out of the box; other currency plugins can connect through two filters.

What data does FalcoSearch collect? Is it GDPR friendly?

FalcoSearch does not send data to any third-party service. If you turn on search analytics, each search term, its result count, the time, and the WordPress user ID of a logged-in user are saved in your own database for the retention period you choose (90 days by default). Favorites and recent searches stay in the visitor’s browser. The only outgoing requests are to the cross-site search endpoints you add yourself, if any.

Where can I see what visitors search for?

Turn on analytics in the settings, then open FalcoSearch Analytics. It shows total searches, top keywords, searches with no results, volume over time, and offers a CSV export.

Can I change how results are ranked?

Yes. Developers can adjust the weight of title, excerpt, content, taxonomy and meta matches with the xerosf_weights filter, and reorder or edit results with xerosf_results.

Do I need to do anything after updating to 1.2.0?

Usually not — settings, shortcodes, hooks and filter sets are kept. Check three settings that are now applied exactly as set: Show excerpt in results (off by default), Search mode (“Title only” now searches titles only) and Enable slash commands (off by default). On WooCommerce archives, vertical filter sets now appear as a sidebar beside the products.

Do filters work if JavaScript is disabled?

Partly. Checkbox, radio, dropdown, rating, date and min / max filters submit as a normal form and reload the page. Range sliders, buttons and swatches need JavaScript.

I used Xero Finder. Is this the same plugin?

Yes. FalcoSearch is the new name of Xero Finder. The plugin slug, settings, shortcodes and hooks are the same, so updating does not require any changes.

How do I remove all plugin data?

Turn on Remove all data on uninstall under Privacy & data, then delete the plugin. This removes the settings, filter sets, cached data and the analytics table. With the option off, deleting the plugin keeps your data.

Easier setup

  • New: one-click Set up shop filters for me builds a filter set from your own categories, prices, product attributes, rating and availability, and shows it on your shop pages.
  • New: add filters by what they filter — Price, Category, Brand, Color, Rating, Availability, Date, Author — already configured.

Improved: filters

  • Vertical filter sets on WooCommerce archives show as a sidebar beside the product grid, and as a full-screen drawer on phones.
  • Counts, active-filter chips, pagination and the WooCommerce result total all refresh after each change.

  • Checkbox, radio, dropdown, rating, date and min / max filters work without JavaScript.

Improved: live search

  • Settings that previously had no effect now work: search mode, synonyms, fallback matching, search operators, ACF fields, SEO metadata, excerpts, server and browser cache, cross-site search.

  • Result limits are capped on public endpoints.
  • Spreadsheet-formula injection in the analytics CSV export.

Upgrade notes
